Intervista - Johnny Crowder dei Prison (in Inglese)

Questa è la brevissima intervista che sono riuscito a fare a Johnny Crowder, cantante dei Prison, band che stimo tantissimo e di cui parlerò nel video che sto montando, qui sotto troverete la versione in Inglese mentre per l'uscita del video la trascriverò in Italiano ma credo che voi tutti sarete capaci di leggere ciò.

1 - Which is the first Prison song you wrote lyrics for? 

Believe it or not, we wrote Dead Meat in early 2014, before anyone knew who was in the band or where we were from. It was a real hush-hush project for a while because we were all in other signed bands at the time.

2 - Which is the song with the most powerful lyrics in your opinion? 

That’s really tough for me to answer. I think Rape Me gets a lot of credit for being powerful because it’s just so visceral and raw and honest. I knew we would receive a little flack for writing about sexual abuse so literally, but I didn’t expect the outpouring of support and empathy that followed the video release.

3 - Why and how did you start writing lyrics like the ones we can read in N.G.R.I? 

It’s just my way of processing things. Sitting down and writing something in black and white really helps me examine exactly how I feel and why I feel that way. Some of the lyrics on N.G.R.I. surprised me, because I didn’t even know I felt that way until I sang it in the studio and it resonated with me. Music can unlock things in me that I’ve tried to ignore for years.

4 - Which song is your favourite in terms of both instrumental and lyrics? 

I think Wear Your Skin is my favorite song on the record. It’s just so fun musically, kind of like a festival nü metal song, and the lyrics are so simple and relatable. I think that song would probably be a good gateway song for people who aren’t familiar with us yet.

5 - What is the most important message you wanna conceive with your music/lyrics? 

I just want people to look at themselves. Don’t hide and pretend and lie and bury who you are for the sake of other people, or just out of fear of what it would look like if you actually took a mental or emotional inventory of yourself. I want people to be profoundly different after they see us live or hear one of our songs. I want to start a revolution.

Consigli da Bandcamp #2 - Sleepsculptor

Salve a tutti ragazzi,
Volete un ascolto veloce ma che comunque riesca a dare qualcosa di concreto al vostro apparato uditivo? Volete roba violenta e becera ma siete stufi di ascoltare gruppi Grindcore e affini? Nonostante la violenza e la durata breve del tutto volete qualcosa con dei testi che non sono fuffa?
Tranquilli, ho la soluzione io al vostro problema, e anche se con questa introduzione mi sono sentito Mastrota durante una televendita di pentole ora vi illustrerò il tutto.

"Untimening" degli americanissimi Sleepsculptor è ciò che rachciude tutto ciò di cui ho parlato nelle righe poco sopra. Questo EP ha una durata praticamente irrisoria, 11 minuti, ma mi ha conquistato a dei livelli incredibili. Siamo davanti a una piccola bomba a mano che ci esplode da subito nelle cuffie con delle sonorità che si collocano esattamente nel mezzo tra deathcore, grindcore e hardcore, e sarà complice la breve durata del tutto ma ho dovuto per forza acquistare questo EP appunto perchè ne sono rimasto catturato all'inverosimile.
Menzione speciale va alle vocals che sono gestite in maniera perfetta e sono la parte più interessante di tutto il lavoro, completando e rinvigorendo la parte strumentale dove questa va magari a perdere qualche punto.

Detto questo vi lascio qui il link per poter sentire, supportare e magari seguire questi ragazzi gentilissimi e capaci di creare della musica davvero d'impatto, sono convinto che sentiremo parlare di loro di più a breve quindi stay tuned.

5 dischi "-core" del 2015 da ascoltare

Ovviamente non si può procedere al ritmo di una recensione al giorno al momento quindi per concedere alla piccola redazione un giorno di pausa, ogni settimana vi sarà un giorno dedicato ad articoli speciali come questo.
Detto questo, oggi Andrea vi proporrà 5 dischi appartenenti al mondo del "-core" usciti nell'anno appena passato da ascoltare senza indugiare.

Darke Complex - Widow

Se già con Sworn In e My Ticket Home si cominciava ad sentire un certo odore di “Nu” nella musica -core che in questi anni tanto infesta molti gruppi, con i Darke Complex (e per fortuna anche altri che vedremo in futuro) abbiamo avuto conferma che uno dei generi più controversi della storia sta per tornare mescolato ad uno altrettanto controcorrente.

I Darke Complex (ex Widow) ci propongono il loro EP intitolato appunto “Widow” in memoria dei tempi andati. Quello che ci si può trovare ad ascoltare queste 7 canzoni è davvero un miscuglio PERFETTO di Metalcore e Nu metal, non si può definire questo “Widow” in altri modi.
